In finalising my collagraph print, I have scanned one of my prints and experimented with texture and layers using procreate. Adding environmental elements and ground to the image. Using procreate on my unfinished work has helped me plan towards an idea of how my final piece could look like. I also like the digital image as a completed work.
Watercolour - Using plastic plates and watercolour, I have created paintings of trees that will be prnted onto the rag paper, aswell the collagraphs are chine-collé. This technique uses plastic plates that have been coated with a thin layer of detergent (allowing the watercolour to stick to the plate). The watercolour is then painted onto the plate. An image can be placed under the plastic, as a guide. Allow the watercolour to dry before printing. The press is set to the thickness of the plate, with felt blankets. Damp rag paper activates the watercolour. This worked pretty well but some areas did bleed.
In the same printing session, I attched the kozo (chine-collé). The prints were pre glued and I just lightly sprayed them to activate the glue. I placed them onto the rag and run through the press. The print was then dried under boards (to dry flat).
I have also chine-collé my collagraphs onto black rag paper. I plan to experiment with adding some white dots to the background, creating a spacey/ star effect.
